Raise.Me Micro-Scholarship Program

Qualifications:

Application available for 9th-12th grade, but awards not given until verification of achievements at the end of senior year

Amount: Each college/university that participates offers different awards for different achievements.

Deadline: Varies by college/university

Qualifications:

Students who age out of Iowa's foster care system, age out of the Iowa State Training School, or who are adopted from foster care after the age of 16 may qualify for the All Iowa Opportunity Foster Care Grant program. This grant can be used for any college expenses including tuition, fees, books and supplies, dorms and off-campus housing, meal plans, transportation, and personal living expenses.  For the application and more information, click here

Amount: Up to $9,000 each year

Deadline: Application available Jan. 1st through Dec. 1st each year

 Horatio Alger Iowa Scholarship

The Horatio Alger Association currently has 600+ scholarships available, up to $25,000 each.

These opportunities are seeking individuals who display integrity and perseverance in overcoming adversity, and plan to pursue higher education.

 

 


Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

  • Be currently enrolled or plan to be enrolled part-time or full-time in an accredited U.S. college or university. Vocational/technical, two-year, four-year, or graduate institutions are eligible.
  • Be a high school junior or senior, undergraduate student, or graduate student
  • Have a grade point average of 2.5 or above on a 4.0 system
  • Recipients must provide an official transcript confirming their reported GPA and proof of enrollment
  • Amount: $1,000
  • Deadline: May 31, 2025

Simpson College “All-in for Iowa” Program

  • The Simpson $100K Promise: Pledges full-tuition support for admitted students whose family’s adjusted household income is $100,000 or less. 
  • 99 County Full-Tuition: Guarantees that one admitted student from each of Iowa’s 99 counties will be offered a full-tuition scholarship. Those scholarships will be awarded via a committee selection process, which includes consideration of both financial need and academic merit.

Last Dollar Scholarship

The Iowa Last-Dollar Scholarship covers tuition for many high-demand career and technical areas.

The Iowa Last-Dollar Scholarship covers any tuition gaps not covered by other federal and state grants/scholarships for eligible Iowa residents enrolled in targeted, high-demand career and technical programs. This first-of-its-kind financial assistance program offers an affordable pathway into many exciting and growing careers. Iowa employers are hiring graduates with these skills.

The Last-Dollar Scholarship is available to:

  • Students who recently completed an Iowa high school diploma, a homeschool program, or high school equivalency diploma, OR students (age 20 and older)
  • Enroll at least part-time in an eligible program of study
  • Apply for all other available state and federal grants and scholarships
  • Meet ongoing requirements
  • Have a Student Aid Index (SAI) at or below $20,000

Newton American Legion Post 111 Scholarship

Eligibility: open to all graduating seniors who plan to attend a 2 to 4 year college, community college, or vocational school

Amount: TBD

KNIA-KRLS Scholarship

Eligibility:  An Iowa Senior pursuing a business or communications degree at a 2 or 4 year college.

Amount:  $500

Charlie Burkart Scholarship

Each applicant is required to submit the following when applying for the scholarship:

1. High school transcript of work completed and description of any post-secondary academic achievement.

2. Two recommendations – may be from a high school administrator or teacher, a PGA professional or other non-family connections.

3. Applicant must include a self-statement concerning his/her interest in golf, other activities and awards, his/her educational and vocational plans/career goals and financial need.

4. Applicant is requested to send a list of other scholarship they have applied for and those that they have received.

Amount: $1,500 per year for four years

Robert D Blue Scholarship

Applicant Requirements:

Applicants must be an Iowa resident planning to attend an in-state college or university during the upcoming school year and not previously been a Robert D. Blue Scholarship recipient. The applicant can be a current high school senior or someone already enrolled in a higher education institution. Applications are only accepted online, and the deadline is May 10 for each year the scholarship is offered.

Shelly Barker Memorial Scholarship

Eligibility: 

  1. 3.6 GPA or higher
  2. 2 years or more on Newton Senior High School Bowling Team
  3. Plan to attend a 2 or 4 year college

Kellogg American Legion Scholarship

The Kellogg American Legion Scholarship is a one time scholarship awarded by the Kellogg American Legion to high school seniors who are pursuing a 2 year, 4 year, or certification from a skilled trades program.
